Have you ever considered adopting an alpaca? These animals make great pets, and if you purchase one from an experienced alpaca breeder like Dragonstone Ranch, you can end up with a wonderful companion animal with plenty of personality.
Alpaca crias will be sold weaned, well socialized, and halter trained. All our alpacas are pedigreed, so all crias can be registered if the buyer wishes to breed. Your cria will come with a care package and breeder support for the lifetime of the animal. The care package includes alpaca pellets, hay, halter and lead rope, all packed in a Dragonstone Exotics backpack. All babies will receive any necessary preventative treatments as directed by our licensed veterinarian before leaving our care. For an additional fee of $50, alpaca crias can receive a physical exam and health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian before leaving our care. A health certificate is required for interstate travel.
Our alpaca herd is very tame. Therefore, it is unnecessary to pull and bottle our crias since they are already so tame and easy to socialize while they are still with their mothers. Your alpaca baby will be much healthier raised on mother’s milk and taught alpaca manners. Male bottle babies are extremely dangerous. Just Google “Berserk male syndrome” to see why.

Alpacas are generally friendly creatures that are easy to care for if you have enough room for them on your property. If you have kids, alpacas can help teach them responsibility, and these animals are typically good with children. Baby alpacas can grow up with kids and become a cherished member of the family over the years. Alpaca fiber is very soft and useful for spinning and weaving. Many alpacas can also be trained for obedience in the unlikely event of any minor behavioral issues.

Berserk Male Syndrome, also called Aberrant Behavior Syndrome, can be a safety concern for some prospective alpaca owners. This trait shows up in some lines of alpacas. A young male alpaca develops this syndrome when it imprints on a human being and starts treating that human as if they were another alpaca. This can lead to aggressive behavior as the young male then becomes territorial, and the syndrome can be a safety concern and a liability. With intense training, however, many alpacas overcome the issue, and you can keep your farm and family safe. If you want to avoid the problem altogether, you could also adopt a female alpaca instead of a male.
